Erin Mullady Hamlin (born November 19, 1986 in New Hartford , New York ) is a former American luge athlete .
life and career
Erin Hamlin was US Junior Champion in 2004 and 2005. In 2005 she took part in the Luge World Championships for the first time in Park City and finished in 15th place. In the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin Hamlin finished in twelfth place. She has been competing in the Luge World Cup since the 2005/06 season . Her best result came in fifth in Lake Placid in 2005 and Park City in 2006 . She achieved the same rank again the following season in Lake Placid. In the Challenge Cup at the end of 2006 she was able to advance to the finals in a race in Park City, where she only had to admit defeat to Sylke Otto . At the 2007 World Championships , she finished fifth in the individual and fourth with the team.
On February 6, 2009 Hamlin sensationally won the gold medal in the women's singles at the 2009 Luge World Championships in Lake Placid , ahead of Natalie Geisenberger and Natalja Jakuschenko . It was the first victory of a non-German luge athlete after 99 victories in a row in the World Cup and at major international events. In the following season Hamlin became the toughest competitor of the German athletes, but without reaching the achievements of Tatjana Hüfner or Geisenberger. All in all, she reached third place three times this season and was fourth in the overall World Cup ranking. However, she was unable to confirm these achievements at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . She could not cope with the changed conditions of the shortened track and only took 16th place.
