The 2016 Luge America-Pacific Championships were held from December 15 to 17, 2016 as part of the 4th World Cup race of the 2016/17 season on the Park City Bobsleigh Track in the Utah Olympic Park in Park City , Utah . There were competitions in the single-seater for men and women and the two-seater. All competitions (with the exception of the two-seater race) were decided in two runs; the results of the World Cup races in the respective disciplines were used for the evaluation. Athletes who did not qualify for the World Cup in the previous Nations Cup and thus could not take part in the competition for the America-Pacific Championships were ranked in the order of their placements in the Nations Cup.

The titles all went to the US team. Erin Hamlin won in the women's singles, Tucker West secured the title in the men’s single and Matthew Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman won the doubles classification .

Defending champion

In the past America Pacific Championships in 2015 in the Canadian Calgary won Erin Hamlin in single-seater of women, Chris Mazdzer in single-seater of the men and the doubles pair of Tristan Walker and Justin Snith .

The title in the women's singles was won by the US defending champion Erin Hamlin on her home track ahead of her compatriot Emily Sweeney and the Canadian Alex Gough . These three also finished on the podium in the Race-in-Race World Cup races. On the other places followed Summer Britcher (5th in the World Cup race) ahead of Kimberley McRae (7th in the World Cup race) and Raychel Michele Germaine (9th in the World Cup race) as well as the Argentine Verónica María Ravenna (16th in the World Cup race) and Brooke Apshkrum (19. in the World Cup race) from Canada. Germaine, Ravenna and Apshkrum had qualified via the Nations Cup for the World Cup and thus the rating race for the America-Pacific Championship.

America Pacific champion was American Tucker West ahead of his compatriot and defending champion Christopher Mazdzer . With Taylor Cloy Morris , a third luge from the United States stood on the podium, Jonathan Eric Gustafson completed the four- fold victory of the Americans on their home track. The Canadians Mitchel Malyk and Reid Watts , who, like Morris and Gustafson, had qualified for the Nations Cup race, followed in 5th and 6th place . John Fennell and Nicolas Klimchuk-Brown did not succeed in this qualification, they were ranked in the order of the Nations Cup results of December 15th. The Canadian Samuel Edney did not run. In the Race-in-Race World Cup races, West achieved 4th place, Mazdzer finished 7th, Morris 11th and Gustafson 17th Malyk followed on 18th, Watts finished in 28th.

There was only one run for the doubles. Local heroes Matthew Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman secured the doubles title ahead of Justin Garret Krewson and Andrew Sherk . The US-dominated podium was completed by Jacob Hyrns and Anthony Espinoza , who secured bronze in front of the Canadian defending champions Tristan Walker and Justin Snith . In the Race-in-Race World Cup, the America-Pacific champions finished 5th. Krewson / Sherk, who like Hyrns / Espinoza (11th) had qualified via the Nations Cup, finished in 10th place ahead of them. Walker and Snith came 18th . to the goal.
