Petra Tierlich , married Völkel (born February 25, 1945 in Vielau , Saxony ) is a former East German luge athlete .

Petra Tierlich started her sports career at ESV Lok Zwickau before she was delegated to SC Traktor Oberwiesenthal , where she was a club mate of other successful tobogganers like Anna-Maria Müller . At the World Championships in 1965 and 1967, she won the silver medal - behind Ortrun Enderlein . In 1969 she became world champion, which was her greatest personal success. For this success she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit. At GDR championships, she achieved second place as the best placement in 1965.

After she had to end her career because of a herniated disc, Tierlich returned to Zwickau , where she worked as a trainer until 1975 and actively played volleyball. Professionally, Tierlich worked as a technologist in the VEB Bau- und Montage-Kombinat Süd until the fall of the Berlin Wall .
