Angelika Schafferer

Angelika Schafferer (born January 27, 1948 in Rinn ) is a former Austrian luge athlete .

At the beginning of her career, Schafferer was active in natural track tobogganing. She became Austrian national champion in 1968 and won the European Cup in 1970 . In 1971 the first Austrian championship title followed on the artificial track, which she won six more times in a row from 1973 to 1981 (from 1974 to 1976 no championships were held). Schafferer took part in the Winter Olympics three times from 1972 to 1980 : in 1972 she was eleventh in Sapporo , in 1976 in Innsbruck eighth and in 1980 in Lake Placid seventh. In 1978 Schafferer won the bronze medal at the Luge World Championships in Imst . It was the only medal at major events in her career, but the Tyrolean dominated this competition at the beginning of the newly introduced World Cup and won it three times in a row ( 1979 , 1980 and 1981 ).
