Andrea Tagwerker (born October 23, 1970 in Bludenz ) is a former Austrian luge athlete and a four-time starter at the Olympic Winter Games (1988, 1992, 1994, 1998).
Career
Andrea Tagwerker grew up in Bludenz and had the toboggan run in Hinterplärsch right on her doorstep.
At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , she was twelfth in the singles.
In 1992 she reached seventh place at her second Olympic Games in La Plagne as the third best Austrian behind the two Tyrolean sisters Doris Neuner (winner) and Angelika Neuner (runner-up).
1994 Winter Olympics
She won the bronze medal at the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer on the Hunderfossen Olympic track . She was trained by her father Helmut Tagwerker , who was President of the Vorarlberg Toboggan Association for many years .
In 1996 she was third in the women's singles at the European Championships. At the 1997 Luge World Championships in Innsbruck she won gold in the team competition and at the 1998 European Championships in Oberhof she was second.
Overall Luge World Cup winner 1997
Tagwerker celebrated the greatest success of her career in 1997 when she won the overall World Cup. She was the last athlete who could achieve a victory against the German athletes who had been unbeaten since 1997 in the World Cup (as of January 2018).
At the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano , she reached fifth place on February 11. In autumn 1999, the then 29-year-old declared her active time over.
In 1994 and again in 2002 (three years after the end of her international career) she was Austrian champion.

She lives in Bludenz with her husband Hans and their two sons.
