Joy Bryant (born October 19, 1976 in the South Bronx , New York City ) is an American actress and former model and mannequin .

life and career

Born the daughter of a 15-year-old mother, Joy Bryant grew up in critical social circumstances, but already stood out in elementary school with excellent grades. So could their education at a prestigious boarding school in Connecticut finish and came with the help of a scholarship to Yale University .

There, however, she was soon discovered by a talent scout in the fashion industry and broke off her studies in favor of a career as a mannequin and photo model. Joy Bryant worked on the catwalks of Paris and received contracts from Tommy Hilfiger and Victoria's Secret . At the beginning of the new century, she gave up the modeling career again and aspired to the film camera.

She had her first appearance as an actress in 2001 at the side of Beyoncé in the MTV production Carmen: A Hip Hopera . In 2002, Joy Bryant made his movie debut in a small role in the comedy Showtime , starring Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy . Her breakthrough came in the same year with Denzel Washington , who hired her for one of the leading roles in his directorial debut Antwone Fisher . This was followed by several guest appearances in the television series Emergency Room as well as important roles in the adolescent drama Honey with Jessica Alba and in Mario van Peebles ' Homage Badasssss! (How to Get the Man's Foot Outta Your Ass) to his father (both 2003). In 2004 she took part in three films: 3-Way with Ali Larter and Haven with Orlando Bloom (both leading roles) and in a supporting role in Spider-Man 2 . In 2005 she starred in the internationally successful thriller The Forbidden Key (with Kate Hudson and Gena Rowlands ) and in the autobiographical film Get Rich or Die Tryin ' over and with 50 Cent . This film was partly filmed in the Bronx, in the immediate vicinity of the neighborhood where Joy Bryant had spent her childhood.

In 2006, Joy Bryant landed a starring role in the film Bobby , which stars Anthony Hopkins , Helen Hunt , William H. Macy and Heather Graham . The following year she received a supporting role in The Hunting Party with Terrence Howard and Richard Gere . She starred in the romantic comedy Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins (2008) , opposite James Earl Jones and Martin Lawrence . Her current project is the television film Virtuality (2009). Since 2010 she can be seen in the television series Parenthood as Jasmine Trussel .

Since October 2007 she has been in a relationship with the stuntman Dave Pope, whom she married on June 28, 2008.

In 2018 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
