action

Lew lives from painting advertising signs. One day he happened to witness the love couple Isobel and Ralph discussing the kidnapping of Ralph's wife, Florence. Florence comes from a wealthy family. The kidnappers want to demand a $ 1 million ransom. However, Ralph plans to kill his wife even if he gets the money.

Rita helps her friend Lew identify the future kidnappers. Lew decides to take over the million dollar ransom after delivery. While watching Ralph and Florence's house, he is attacked by a man.

The man, Herbert, asks Lew about the hiding place of the bodies of Lew's wife and her lover, whom Lew found dead on a boat a few months earlier. In excitement he left his pistol there, which Herbert later found. Herbert must find the body of the man who was his brother if he is to take on the inheritance left by his mother. Lew threw the bodies into the sea, as shown in a flashback. He hesitates with this information, although he is supposed to get his pistol back for her.

Rita distracts Herbert while Lew takes the kidnapped Florence to another hiding place. Rita asks Herbert a favor. Lew unties Florence in hiding, she seduces him. Herbert appears and kills Florence, but is shot by Rita shortly afterwards.

Lew calls Ralph, who is supposed to leave the bag with the million dollars at the appointed place. Rita takes over the bag, later she shows Lew the scraps of paper it contains. Lew confronts Ralph and Isobel, at that moment the police, who were notified by Rita, appear.

Lew's voiceover says that you cannot have wealth and love at the same time .

A lawyer paid by Rita appears in custody and gives Lew the interrogation protocols. Rita's version of events incriminates only Isobel and Ralph; Lew is released. In the final scene, he and Rita - who took over the million dollars - are romping on a beach.

Reviews

The Lexicon of International Films wrote that the film was "solid" but did not come as a surprise. The representations are "convincing".

kino.de assessed: “Everyone cheats everyone and is always ready to make unconventional alliances of convenience in this rock-solid B-movie thriller based on a literary model from the 1960s. Director Scott Ziehl, most recently represented here with 'Dangerous Liaisons 3', delivers a surprisingly elegant staging with limited resources, and Gina Gershon as the bitchy kidnapping victim and Final Destination star Ali Larter should ensure that the end user takes note of it. Filming took place in Los Angeles and Santa Clarita ( California ) from June 2003.
