Sebastian Schmidt (luge rider)

Sebastian Schmidt (born February 1, 1978 in Bautzen ) is a former German luge rider. He has been active since 1987 and initially trained at SG Bautzen-Nord. The police chief started for the SSV Altenberg . Since 1992 he has been trained in the state performance center for bobsleigh, luge and biathlon . He celebrated his greatest successes on the two-seater with his long-term partner André Forker . The team already sledged together in the junior area. In 1998 they became the junior team world champion and junior vice world champion in doubles in Sigulda .

The Schmidt / Forker team finished tenth at the 2001 World Championships. So far it has been better at the European Championships. In 2000 the duo became fifth, and in 2006 they were vice European champions in Winterberg . In the overall World Cup, they came in sixth in 2005, and fifth in 2006. Twice, in 2005 in Lake Placid and in 2006 in Altenberg (with a track record time), they were able to win a World Cup race. At German championships the team became champions in 2002 and 2006, runner-up in 2000 and 2001 and third in 2003. The duo is trained by Uwe Günter.
