Cesana Torinese ( Piedmontese Cesan-a , Occitan Cesana ) is an Italian commune with 940 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Turin (TO), Piedmont region .
The municipality consists of the districts Bousson , Désertes , Fénils , Mollières , Solomiac , Thures , Champlas Seguin , Rhuilles , San Sicario Borgo , San Sicario Alto and Pra Claud . Neighboring municipalities are Abriès-Ristolas , Cervières , Claviere , Montgenèvre , Névache , Oulx , Sauze di Cesana and Sestriere . The patron saint of the place is St. John the Baptist .
geography
The place is at an altitude of 1,354 m above sea level at the confluence of the mountain streams Ripa and Dora to the Dora Riparia . The municipality covers an area of 121.3 km².
Sports
For the 2006 Winter Olympics , an artificial ice rink was built near Cesana Pariol for competitions in bobsleigh , luge and skeleton . The track was closed in 2012. The Olympic biathlon competitions were also held in Cesana, San Sicario.
On the fringes of the 2011 Luge World Championship, Cesana made the most successful Italian luge athlete Armin Zöggeler from South Tyrol an honorary citizen.
