Airasca is a municipality with 3696 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian metropolitan city of Turin (TO) in the Piedmont region .
geography
The place is 26 kilometers southwest of Turin and 19 kilometers east of Pinerolo .
Airasca is located in the Pinerolo plain on the northwestern edge of the Po plain in an area that is criss-crossed by numerous natural and artificial watercourses. The most important is the Rio Torto, which flows into the Chisola, a tributary of the Po . The area is used intensively for agriculture. However, Airasca has developed into a commuter city in the Turin area in the last few decades.
The districts Gabellieri , Cascinette and Vicendette belong to the municipality . The neighboring municipalities are Cumiana , Volvera , None , Piscina and Scalenghe .

Airasca is located on Strada Regionale SR 23 , which connects Turin with the winter sports areas around Sestriere and ends in Cesana Torinese just before the French border. The None exit on the A55 Autostrada del Pinerolese motorway is 4 km northeast of the town center.
Airasca station on the Turin – Pinerolo – Torre Pellice railway line is 1 km north of the town center. Here a branch line branched off to Saluzzo , which was closed in 1986.
history
Airasca was founded by the princes of Piossasco in the 13th century. The place developed around the central castle of Piossasco.
On October 4, 1693, the Battle of Marsaglia took place near Airasca , during which the Savoy troops of Duke Viktor Amadeus II were defeated by the French. As a result, the village was devastated by French troops under the command of General Catinat .

politics
Giovanni Andreazzoli (list of citizens) was elected mayor in June 2009. He replaced Michele Clemente, who was clearly defeated by him in the election.

Attractions
- The parish church Parrocchiale di San Bartolomeo , built in 1332, was renovated in Baroque style in the 17th century and expanded in 1828. In the interior there are frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries. The campanile still comes from the original Gothic building.
- The church of Santo Spirito from the 18th century is a typical building of the Piedmontese baroque.
- The castle Castello dei conti Piossasco-Airasca formed the original core of the place.
- Four kilometers to the north is the Castello della Marsiglia , where the battle named after him took place in 1693.
Festivals
Every year for the carnival there is a large procession of decorated floats from the surrounding communities. The typical characters in the Airasca Carnival are the Praje (who was responsible for maintaining the canals) and the Marghera (butter woman).

The community has a kindergarten, a primary school and a secondary school. There is also a pharmacy.

Airasca is known for its butter made according to a traditional recipe.
