Almese ( Piedmontese Almèis ) is a municipality with 6375 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian metropolitan city of Turin (TO) in the Piedmont region .

Almese is a member of the Comunità montana Bassa Valle di Susa e Val Cenischia . The community consists of the districts Almese, Malatrait, Milanere and Rivera. The neighboring municipalities are Val della Torre , Rubiana , Villar Dora , Caselette and Avigliana .

The place is located 27 kilometers west of Turin in the Susa Valley at an altitude of 364 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of ​​17 km² .

Ceramic shards found in the Almese area date back to the Iron Age . More important finds have survived from the time of the Roman Empire. In 1980, the remains of a Roman villa were found in the district of Rivera, which was built in the Augustan period and destroyed in the 3rd century. There are also graves from Roman times in the community.

In the Middle Ages, the place belonged to the possessions of the Abbey of San Giusto di Susa , in the 17th century it became part of the property of the Bertolero family, who then took on the title "Conti di Almese" (Counts of Almese).
