Attractions
The Castello di Rivoli originally dates from the 13th century. It was destroyed several times. In 1718, Duke Viktor Amadeus II of Savoy commissioned Filippo Juvarra to build the new residence, which, however, was not completed due to financial difficulties. In 1792 Carlo Randoni made the ruins habitable. From 1979 the Piedmont region had the castle renovated and the Museum of Modern Art (Museo di Arte Contemporanea) set up by 1984. This soon belonged to one of the most important places of European contemporary art and contains permanent exhibitions of internationally renowned artists. The fragmentary rococo frescos form an attractive contrast to the modern installations. In 1991 the museum, which had previously comprised 38 halls, was expanded to include the third floor of the Manica Lunga (long wing), an outbuilding of the castle that was previously used as a gallery . The long wing is 140 meters long and 7 meters wide, houses temporary exhibitions and has a boardroom, library, video library, classrooms, book shops, reading rooms and a caffetteria. The entire museum in the castle now has an exhibition area of around 7,000 square meters. The castle belongs since 1997 as part of the Savoy residences for World Heritage .
The Corso Francia was built as a road from Turin to France. It still connects Rivoli with Turin over a 12 km straight stretch.
