Ala di Stura ( Piedmontese and Franco-Provençal Ala ) is a municipality with 453 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian metropolitan city of Turin (TO) in the Piedmont region .

The municipality, an alpine winter sports center, consists of the districts of Pian del Tetto , Cresto , Martassina , Mondrone , Villar and Pertusetto . The neighboring communities are Groscavallo , Chialamberto , Ceres , Balme , Mezzenile and Lemie . The patron saint of the place is San Grato .

The municipality is part of the Comunità Montana Valli di Lanzo administrative community .

geography

The mountain town is located 54 kilometers from the provincial capital Turin at an altitude of 1080 m above sea level in the Valle d'Ala , one of the three Valli di Lanzo . The municipality covers an area of ​​45 km².

history

The exact origin of the village is not known, but its existence since the Middle Ages is documented by a document from 1267.
