Chivasso ( Piedmontese Civas or Ciuvas ) is an Italian municipality with 26,827 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Turin (TO), Piedmont region .

The place is located on the north bank of the Po at an altitude of 183  m slm. The municipality covers an area of ​​51 km². The small river Orco flows into the Po to the southwest of the village .

The municipality consists of the districts Montegiove, Betlemme, Torassi, Castelrosso, Pogliani, Borghetto, Mosche, Mandria, Boschetto and Pratoregio.

The neighboring municipalities are Mazzè , Caluso , San Benigno Canavese , Montanaro , Rondissone , Verolengo , Volpiano , Brandizzo , San Sebastiano da Po , Castagneto Po and San Raffaele Cimena .

history

The well-known history of Chivassos begins in 1164, when Friedrich Barbarossa gives the poor fishing village on the Po to the Marquis of Montferrato as a fief .

Attractions

• The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta , also known as the Duomo , was built at the beginning of the 15th century and consecrated in 1429. The campanile was built in 1457. The decoration of the facade is also made of terracotta .
