The Turin – Milan line is a double-track main line between the northern Italian cities of Turin and Milan . Since 2006, however, the inner-Italian high-speed traffic has been running on the parallel high-speed line Turin – Milan .

history

The first section was opened on May 25, 1854, the inner-city section between the two Turin train stations Porta Nuova and Porta Susa . 1854 was Thomas Brassey of Section Turin Porta Susa Novara by the Società Vittorio Emanuele , which after the then King of Sardinia and Piedmont , Victor Emmanuel II. Was named, opened. On October 18, 1858, it was extended to Trecate on the banks of the Ticino , which at that time formed the border between Sardinia-Piedmont and the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia , which was part of the Austrian Empire . On the same day, in Lombardy-Veneto, the line between Milan and Magenta was opened on the opposite bank of the river. The gap was closed on June 1, 1859 with the bridge over the river.

Between 1865 and 1885, the railway line was owned by the Società per le strade ferrate dell'Alta Italia , then moved to the Società per le Strade Ferrate del Mediterraneo and finally, when the Italian railway companies were nationalized in 1905, it came into the possession of Ferrovie dello Stato FS .

From 2008, the previous Torino Porta Susa station was replaced by an underground station of the same name, which has been the new Turin main station since 2013, also in preparation for the Mont-Cenis base tunnel .
