history
The station was opened as a service station on March 21, 1914, when the connection to Milano Lambrate went into operation. It received the final status of a passenger station on September 23 of the same year. At that time Greco was still an independent municipality (Greco Milanese) , it was not incorporated into Milan until 1923. The station was called Greco when it opened , and the addition Pirelli was added later. The reason for this was the Pirelli parent plant in Bicocca nearby. Pirelli is now only present here with a research center, the disused factories were subjected to urbanization under the direction of the architect Vittorio Gregotti . For example, the Università degli Studi di Milano - Bicocca, founded in 1998, and the Teatro degli Arcimboldi - Mario Botta worked on the latter - are located here.
Since 1966, Greco Pirelli has been directly connected to the Porta Garibaldi train station via the Passantino tunnel.
