The Milano Porta Romana train station ( Italian : Stazione di Milano Porta Romana ) is a train station in the northern Italian city of Milan . It is located on the Southern Belt Railway , which is operated by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana .

location

The train station is in the southeast of the city; its name goes back to the city gate Porta Romana , which is about 500 meters further north.

The reception building is next to Corso Lodi , which leads over the railway facilities. Under the building are the two tracks with two side platforms .

history

The Porta Romana freight yard was located on the Southern Belt Railway , which opened in 1891 ; Due to the industrial growth, a passenger station was built in 1931, which was used especially for commuter traffic.

In 1991 the M3 line of the metro was opened, which provides a connection to the state train station with the Lodi TIBB subway station . Curiously, there is another subway station, called Porta Romana , which is located at the city gate and therefore has nothing to do with the station. A renaming of the state train station has already been discussed.

traffic

In the past, the station was served by worker trains to Lodi and Pavia . Since 2004 he is after several years of non-use of suburban trains of S9 ( Saronno - Milan - Albairate ) of the S-Bahn operated again that operate in halbstündlichem regular intervals.
