The Torino Porta Susa railway station is a long distance and regional train station in the Italian city of Turin and in front Porta Nuova the main railway station of the city. The station is owned by the FS infrastructure subsidiary Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and, in addition to Trenitalia trains, it is also served by the private railway companies Arenaways and Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori .

history

First train station

The above-ground station was opened in 1848 due to Turin’s strong westward development. It was still in front of the Porta Nuova train station on the lines to Milan and has always been used by long-distance trains. In 2006, a station for the Turin metro was built under the train station , but it only went into operation in September 2011. The above-ground train station was closed in 2009.

Second train station (Porta Susa AV)

The first two tracks of the tunnel station were already opened in 2008, after the above-ground part was closed, two more tracks of the station called Torino Porta Susa sotterranea went into operation. The reason for the renovation was to move the route underground within the city center. The last two tracks went into operation at the beginning of 2013 and Porta Susa replaced the Porta Nuova station as Turin main station, as no change of direction is necessary here (especially in traffic to / from Paris or Genoa). The new tunnel station is covered by a 300-meter-long steel and glass structure, the design of which comes from the French architects Arep. The 55 million euro project was fully supported by the FS infrastructure company Rete Ferroviaria Italiana .

traffic

The station is served by all long-distance trains whose route goes via Porta Susa. In addition to Le Frecce trains from Trenitalia to Milan (Frecciarossa also to Bologna, Roma, Naples and Salerno, Frecciabianca to Verona, Venice, Udine and Trieste), the TGV between Milano Porta Garibaldi and Paris Gare de Lyon as well as trains from private railway company Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori with its high-speed trains to Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples and Salerno. Most regional trains that go to and from Turin also stop at this station. These are the lines to Asti, Rivarolo, Fossano, Chieri and Bra.
