The Airasca – Saluzzo line was an Italian branch line in the Piedmont region .
history
The construction of a railway line from Airasca via Moretta to Cavallermaggiore was authorized in 1879 by Law No. 5002 ( Legge Baccarini ). Later the construction of a branch line from Moretta to Saluzzo was allowed.
The line between Airasca and Saluzzo was opened in 1884–1885. The Moretta – Cavallermaggiore section became a branch line.
The Airasca – Saluzzo line was used by local trains. As early as 1959, it was proposed to shut down the unprofitable route. However, the line remained in operation until the so-called "Decreto Signorile", valid from January 1, 1986, which is why many Italian branch lines were closed.
The section between Airasca and Moretta was dismantled in the late 1990s; the southern section to Saluzzo has been preserved and is still used today as a siding to the Milanesio works .
