Cavallermaggiore ( Piedmontese Cavlimor / Caolimor or Cavalimor ) is a municipality with 5431 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN), Piedmont region .

The neighboring municipalities are Bra , Cavallerleone , Cherasco , Marene , Monasterolo di Savigliano , Racconigi , Ruffia , Sanfrè , Savigliano and Sommariva del Bosco .

The municipality covers an area of ​​51 km² .

history

In a document from 1028, a Witberti Cavallarium is mentioned for the first time . In a bull from Pope Lucius III. from 1185 the name is then Cavallarius Maius , from which the current name is derived. During the Middle Ages , different families ruled the place. From 1418 onwards it belonged to the House of Savoy , which meant that it became part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861 . In 1863, King Victor Emmanuel II granted the town town charter .
