Bellino ( Piedmontese Blin , Occitan Blins ) is a municipality with 101 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN), Piedmont region . Bellino is part of the Comunità montana Valle Varaita .
The municipality consists of several hamlets in the Valle Varaita di Bellino , or Val Bellino for short , a side valley of the Valle Varaita . The only road connection is out of the valley to Casteldelfino . The municipality also borders (from Casteldelfino counterclockwise) on Pontechianale in the Varaita valley, Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye on the other side of the main Alpine ridge in France and Acceglio , Prazzo and Elva in the Maira Valley .
The municipality covers an area of 61 km² . The inhabitants still speak Occitan .
The oldest Borgata in the municipality of Bellino is Celle, which was first named in 1329 as "Villa Ecclesiam". There was a church of St. James, which may have been connected to the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, Spain . This church was built above a pagan altar, which was dedicated to the Celtic god Belenus . The largest Borgata of the Bellino Valley to this day was the seat of notaries and Medici, a customs station and a fire pump, a school and an old people's home. Mills and numerous handicrafts, shops and hostels were still there at the beginning of the 20th century, when migration from the valley increased dramatically. Characteristic are the steep ramps over which hay was loaded onto wagons on the upper floors. A small cultural center provides information about the former living conditions in the valley.
