history
During the Second World War Boves was a place of the Italian resistance, so that after the armistice of Cassibile on September 19, 1943 a unit of the 1st SS Panzer Division under Joachim Peiper occupied the place in order to find partisans. In the massacre that followed, soldiers set fire to the center of the village with 350 houses and killed many civilians. Similar incidents were repeated on December 31, 1943 and January 3, 1944, bringing the number of houses burned to a total of 500.
During the time of the resistance struggle, which lasted for over 20 months, many people in Boves lost their lives. As a result of these events, the city was awarded two medals for civil and military honors. The desire for reconciliation with the past led to the establishment of the first "School of Peace" ( Scuola di Pace ) in Italy in 1983 .
