Paesana ( Piedmontese Paisan-a , Occitan Paisana ) is a municipality with 2682 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN), Piedmont region . It is located on the upper reaches of the Po, about 50 km southwest of Turin .

It has been a member of the Comunità Montana Valli Po, Bronda e Infernotto mountain community since 2006 , which was expanded in 2008 to become the Comunità Montana Valli Po, Bronda, Infernotto e Varaita . Paesana, as a centrally located place, is the seat of this community association.

The place is at an altitude of 650 m above sea level in the middle of the Valle Po , about 20 km before the mountain valley opens into the Po plain. The Po, which rises in the Cottian Alps, flows past the southern edge of the village and, for once, has a relatively wide valley floor .

The Strada Statale 662 (SS 622 or "Via Valle Po") runs through the valley - here on the opposite bank of the river near the district of Erasca - which leads into the western mountains or east via Saluzzo to Turin.

history

Paesana has existed at least since the Middle Ages, but was partially destroyed in World War II (?). The parish church of Santa Margherita is mentioned in writing in 1386. It has a Romanesque campanile and has been renovated in the Baroque style.
