Location and dates

The area of the municipality covers an area of 3.68 km². Neighboring municipalities are Alba , about 7 km northeast, and Diano d'Alba , about 6 km southeast.

The name of the place is known in Italy and beyond because of the Premio Grinzane Cavour literary prize of the same name , which is awarded there every year. The original name Grinzane was supplemented by the addition of Cavour to honor the long-time mayor (1832-1849) and later founder of the Italian state, Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour .

Grinzane Cavour is surrounded by vineyards that are particularly famous for the red wine Barolo . The castle houses the enoteca of the Piedmont region with a wine exhibition and wine tasting. In Grinzane Cavour, vines for Dolcetto d'Alba , a red wine with DOC status, are also grown. The berries of the Pinot Noir and / or Chardonnay grape varieties can be used to make Alta Langa sparkling wine .

Culinary specialties

Every year in November, a truffle auction for charity takes place here. In November 2006, a buyer from Hong Kong bought 1.5 kilograms of truffles for a total of 125,000 euros.
