Enoteca in Tambre (Belluno), Italy

The enoteca ( ancient Greek : οἶνος oinos = wine θήκη theke = ( wine ) lager, wine shop ; German : Önothek or Enothek ) is a combination of upscale wine trade, delicatessen and gastronomy that was created in Italy - a kind of tasting room in which wines are often pure Retail price or at a slightly higher tasting flat-rate, tasted together with delicatessen specialties and can then be bought or ordered to take away if interested.

Originally, the term was generally used in Italy for upscale wine shops (while the simpler wine shops are called Bottiglieria ).

In Germany, the term vinotheque is also common - especially if the wines are not Italian . More recently, the term enothek can also be found for Italian restaurants with a “small menu”, which in Italy are mostly referred to as osteria .
