On Italian territory, he takes the name of Piccola Dora and, after the confluence with the mountain streams Ripa della Valle Argentera and Thuras di Busson near the village of Cesana for Dora Riparia . After flowing through the Susa Valley and taking in its largest tributary, the Dora di Bardonecchia near Oulx , and the mountain streams Galambra and Cenischia shortly before Susa, it flows into the Po plain .
Other small tributaries and streams on the way through the areas of the municipalities of Avigliana , Alpignano , Pianezza and Collegno are the Gravio di Condove , the Sessi di Caprie and the Messa di Almese from the left, as well as the Scaglione di Meana and the Gravio di Villarfocchiard from right. Finally, the Dora Riparia flows into the Po as a left tributary near Turin .
history
The city of Turin was established in Roman times at the point where it flows into the Po . The river has been used to generate energy since the Middle Ages , its water was passed through canals, so-called duriae , and was used, among other things, to operate mills.
In the course of the industrial revolution, especially in the 20th century, water quality has deteriorated drastically. It was not until the 1990s that an initiative to renaturalize the river was launched.
In 2002, the Parco agro-naturale della Dora Riparia landscape park was founded. Financed by the municipality of Collegno and the Piedmont region, an attempt is made to strike a balance between the demands of nature conservation and agriculture.
