Anke Wischnewski (born January 5, 1978 in Annaberg-Buchholz ) is a former German luge athlete .

Career

At the age of ten years Wischnewski began in 1988 in Saxony Oberwiesenthal with the luge . She previously worked in cross-country skiing . During the GDR era , coaches came to their school in Annaberg-Buchholz and asked who would like to try the sport of luge. Her international breakthrough came in 1997 at the Junior World Championships in Oberhof , because she won the bronze medal and a year later the one in Sigulda defended her third place.

Wischnewski found the transition from the junior to the active area very difficult. Her debut in the World Cup they were in the 2001/02 season in Calgary , finished sixth and the other races she finished in the top ten. She was sixth in the overall World Cup. The 2002 European Luge Championships in Altenberg went very well with fourth place and on the same occasion she won the bronze medal at her first German championships in 2002 . In the World Cup winter 2002/03 she had to undergo a very World Cup qualification at the beginning of the season. She reached third place three times and came fourth overall. At the 2003 World Championships in Sigulda , she was eighth. The 2003/04 season was not so good compared to the previous season and it finished tenth at the end of the season. At the beginning of the 2004/05 season she had to qualify internally for the World Cup. In the first race she celebrated her first World Cup victory in Altenberg. In the overall standings, she finished fifth. At the 2005 World Championships in Park City , she won the bronze medal. The German federation is only likely to take three athletes to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , and because she was number four, she missed out on the Olympics. At the end of the season she was in 14th place overall in the World Cup. At the German Championships in 2006 in Oberhof, she reached fourth place. In the World Cup winter 2006/07 she was able to win second place in Cesana Torinese and Winterberg and then take third place four times. The sensational third place came out in the overall ranking. At the world championships in Innsbruck-Igls , she was vice world champion on the artificial ice rink, bobsleigh toboggan Igls . At the German Championships 2007 in Altenberg she won the silver medal. Also in this 2007/08 season she was on the podium once with second place and once with third place and the other places were no worse than eighth place. In the end, fourth place jumped out in the overall World Cup. At the home world championships in 2008 in Oberhof Wischnewski took fourth place and at the European championships in Cesana Torinese fifth place. The German championships took place in Oberhof in 2008 and came fourth. The 2008/09 season was much better. Because there she was third seven times. In the overall standings she came third for the second time. At the World Championships in Lake Placid she was 14. For the second time in a row she was fourth at the German Championships in 2009 at Königssee. She qualified in the 2009/10 season with third place overall at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . She reached fifth place when she first participated. She surprisingly won the gold medal for the first time at the 2010 German Championships in Winterberg.

In the 2010/11 season she won second place twice, third place three times and third in the overall standings for the third time in a row. After 2002 she won the bronze medal at the German Championships in Oberhof in 2011 . At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, she finished second in Innsbruck-Igls. Later she was on the podium three times and won third place in the overall World Cup for the fourth time in a row. At her second home World Championships in 2012 in Altenberg, she finished sixth and was fifth at the European Championships in Paramonowo. At the start of the 2012/2013 season , she won the individual and relay races in Innsbruck-Igls. After winning third place in the overall World Cup four times in a row, she came second for the first time. At the 2013 European Championships in Oberhof, she won the bronze medal. But at the 2013 World Championships in Whistler , she just missed the podium in fourth place. She won the silver medal for the second time at the German Championships in 2013 at Königssee. The 2013/14 Olympic season was no worse than the previous season. She reached the podium four times and was fourth in the overall standings. At her last Winter Olympics in 2014 , she came in sixth place. For the third time she won the silver medal at the German Championships in Winterberg in 2014 . Right at the start of the 2014/15 season , she won third place in the Sprint Cup. The other places was no worse than seventh place. In the overall World Cup, she reached fourth place. She finished seventh at the 2015 European Championships in Sochi and the 2015 World Championships . At the German Championships in 2015 in Oberhof, she finished fourth. After the last race in Sochi, she ended her career.

Private

Anke Wischnewski was a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr and was looked after by the Bundeswehr sports promotion group in Frankenberg / Saxony . She lives in Pockau and is married to the former luge rider and today's trainer Torsten Görlitzer and has a daughter with him.
