The early German Luge Championships in 2002 took place on December 20, 2001 on the racing sled and bobsleigh track in Altenberg , Saxony .

The title fights served as a test run for the European Luge Championships in 2002 , which were held a little later on the track in Altenberger Kohlgrund. The national titles went to Silke Kraushaar in the women's singles, Georg Hackl in the men's singles and Sebastian Schmidt / André Forker in the doubles. All competitions were decided in a race.

As in previous years, German champion was Silke Kraushaar , who referred Sylke Otto and Anke Wischnewski to the other podium ranks on her home track . Barbara Niedernhuber missed the podium with a gap of around half a second. Sonja Wiedemann finished fifth, Julia Schäfer followed in 6th place.

As in previous years, the German men's champion was Georg Hackl , who referred Denis Geppert and Jan Eichhorn to the other podium places. David Möller was fourth, Karsten Albert fifth. Patrick Schürer completed the field in 6th place.

German champions were Sebastian Schmidt and André Forker on their home track . They referred last year's winners André Florschütz and Torsten Wustlich as well as Steffen Skel and Steffen Wöller to the further ranks of the podium. Marcel Lorenz and Christian Baude finished fourth, Mike Gerner and Christian Weise fifth. Christian Pfalz and Patrick Günther completed the starting field in 6th place.
