Marcelino Olaechea Loizaga

Marcelino Olaechea Loizaga SDB (born January 9, 1889 in Baracaldo , † October 2, 1972 in Valencia ) was a Spanish religious priest and Archbishop of Valencia.

Life

In 1897 Marcelino Olaechea joined the Salesian College of Baracaldo, in 1901 he moved to the Salesian training center in Villaverde de Pontones. He studied philosophy in the novitiate and philosophical studentat of Carabanchel Alto . He studied theology in the international student council of the Salesians of Turin .

On December 20, 1915, Olachea was ordained a priest and was then director of various religious colleagues (1915 in La Coruña and 1917 in Carabanchel). Later he was provincial in Catalonia, Valencia and Madrid.

In 1933 he visited the seminaries of the ecclesiastical provinces of Valencia, Granada and Seville on behalf of the Holy See . In 1934 he became director of the Ronda de Atocha Salesian College in Madrid.

He was Bishop of Pamplona during the Spanish Civil War and from 1935 to 1946 . The episcopal ordination took place on October 27, 1935 in Madrid by Cardinal Federico Tedeschini .

On February 17, 1946 he was by Pope Pius XII. appointed Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Valencia and remained so until his retirement on November 18, 1966. Pope Paul VI. then appointed him titular Archbishop of Subbar , on whose title he resigned on December 11, 1970.

Marcelino Olaechea was buried in the chapel of Santo Tomás de Villanueva of the Cathedral of Valencia .
