Detlef Uibel (born April 24, 1959 in Guben ) is a German cycling trainer and former track cyclist . Since 1996 he has been the head coach for the short-term area of the Association of German Cyclists (BDR).
Athletic career
Detlef Uibel began active cycling at the age of nine; first coach was his father. His first club was the BSG Lok Guben. Uibel won a GDR championship title in 1975 in the team pursuit in the youth class B. In 1977 Uibel was third in the sprint at the UCI rail world championships for juniors, and in 1981 third in the amateur sprinters at the rail world championships in Brno . In 1985 he became East German champion in the 1000 meter time trial .
Professional
In 1986 Uibel completed his training as a trainer at the DHfK Leipzig and then worked in his profession. He set up a women's training group in Cottbus and was a junior trainer in the association from 1991. Up to and including 2016, athletes supervised by Uibel had won a total of three victories at the Olympic Games and more than 40 medals at world championships.
Private
In his first marriage from 1981 to 1993, Uibel was married to the hurdler Birgit Uibel-Sonntag (1961–2010), who died in January 2010 ; The two have a physically disabled child, which is attributed to the fact that the mother was heavily doped during the GDR era. In his second marriage, Uibel was married to the world-class track sprinter Annett Neumann (* 1970). The now divorced marriage has a daughter.
In October 1995 Detlev Uibel had an accident in a minibus. He was seriously injured in this accident but was able to recover. The racing driver Ina Heinemann, who is also in the car , has been in a wheelchair since this accident.
Honors
- In 2018 Detlev Uibel was named "Trainer of the Year" at the ceremony for the Sportsman of the Year in Baden-Baden .
