Harald Wolf (born November 7, 1955 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a former German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Discovered as a talent at amateur races, Harald Wolf began cycling training at Einheit Flöha from 1969 to 1970 under the instructor Manfred Rast. In the 1971/72 season he moved to Werner Tennigkeit at SG Dynamo Karl-Marx-Stadt , from where he was delegated to the SC Karl-Marx-Stadt sports club in 1972 . His trainers here were Paul Tennler, Willy Gruß and Roland Kaiser. He won his first GDR championship title in 1972 in the single pursuit of the youth B class . Wolf already specialized in the 4,000 m pursuit as a track driver at SG Dynamo , but he also competed in road races throughout his sporting career . In 1979, for example, his greatest international success was overall victory at the Grand Prix de l'Humanité . His stage win at the GDR tour in 1975 was a surprise. He won the individual time trial ahead of eventual world champion Ad Gevers from the Netherlands .

In 1980 he set a world record in the 4000 m individual time trial at the Olympic Games in Moscow on the Velodrome of Krylatskoje , but failed in the race for third place on the Dane Hans-Henrik Ørsted .

Appointed to the national team several times ( World Championships 1979 and 1982 , XXII Olympic Games 1980) , he said goodbye to the national team on December 8, 1984 on the Berlin winter track .
