Hans-Jürgen Klunker

Hans-Jürgen Klunker (born January 7, 1941 in Meißen ) is a German former cyclist from the GDR . He was multiple GDR champion and participant in the UCI world championships in track cycling . His active nickname was "Hanser".

Athletic career

He began his sporting career in 1957 at the Meißen Medicine Association . From November 1959 to August 1974 he was active for ASK Vorwärts Leipzig .

In the GDR, Klunker won the national titles in the 1000-meter time trial in 1963, 1964 and 1965, in 1964 in the tandem race with his partner Tertschek and in 1965 in the sprint . In 1964 he was on the squad of the GDR team for the elimination races for the nomination of the all-German team for the Olympic Games in Tokyo . However, he couldn't prevail against Lothar Claesges in the 1000 meter time trial . He was also defeated by Tertschek against Klaus Kobusch and Willi Fuggerer from the Federal Republic of Germany in the tandem races around the Olympic starting point .

He recorded three international successes with victories at the international sprinter championships on the Berlin winter track in 1963 ahead of Rainer Marx , in 1965 in front of Jürgen Geschke and in 1966 in front of Daniel Morelon .

At the track cycling world championships, Klunker started twice in the sprint. In 1965 he was disqualified in the round of 16. In 1966 he was not placed after the preliminary runs.

Professional

From 1974 to 1983 he worked as a teacher at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . In 1983 he moved to the Federal Republic of Germany . There he continued to work in cycling as a regional association coach for Lower Saxony . Today he is connected to cycling as a member of the presidium of the regional association.
