Wolfgang Tertschek (* 1941 in Leipzig ) is a former German cyclist who was active in the GDR .

Athletic career

Wolfgang Tertschek started for the SC Rotation Leipzig , where he also started cycling. He only competed in track races . His coach was the former Olympic champion Ernst Ihbe . Tertschek won the GDR tandem championship in 1964 with his partner Hans-Jürgen Klunker from ASK Vorwärts Leipzig . In the title fights for the GDR railroad drivers in the sprint , he was runner-up behind Jürgen Geschke . On the tandem he was second again in the championship in 1962 and 1965. In 1964 he was on the squad of the GDR team for the elimination races for the nomination of the all-German team for the Olympic Games in Tokyo . However, he could not prevail in the tandem race for the Olympic starting place with his partner Hans-Jürgen Klunker. Both were defeated by  Klaus Kobusch and Willi Fuggerer from the Federal Republic.

He did not start at the UCI track world championships , although he was nominated twice for the tandem race, because the GDR team did not have a visa from 1962 to 1964 due to a decision by the NATO states (which was made in response to the construction of the Berlin Wall ) received for trips to Western Europe.

WolfgangTertschek ended his career after the 1966 season.
