Horst Pötsch

Horst Pötsch (* 1931 in Leipzig ) is a former German cyclist and DDR -Master in cycling .

Athletic career

Pötsch was a specialist in short-distance races on the track. As a youth driver, he was able to win four titles at the Saxony Championships in 1949 (a total of seven). He began his career at BSG Stern Süd-Ost Leipzig, then started for BSG Stahl LES Leipzig, and from 1952 for BSG Rotation Leipzig-Ost. In 1953, Pötsch won the GDR tandem race with his partner Erich Mähne . In 1950 he was runner-up in the sprint behind Heinz Rothmund and also second in the 1000-meter time trial . He was considered a great talent in the short-haul area of ​​the GDR train drivers and also had a few nominations for the national team in international matches, but ultimately could not prevail in the qualifications for major international competitions. In the 1954 season he competed in track races without major success. He took part in the GDR championships again on the tandem, remained unplaced, and then his career ended.
