Karl-Heinz Peter

Karl-Heinz Peter (born May 26, 1939 in Ludwigsfelde ; † August 23, 1966 in Berlin ) was a German cyclist.

Athletic career

"Kalle" Peter was initially trained by his father Paul Peter (* 1919), who coached all age groups at BSG Traktor Ludwigsfelde . At the end of 1958 he switched to SC Einheit Berlin , where he was active until 1963. He then worked as a trainer at BSG Post Berlin . In 1959 he was GDR sprint champion and was able to defend the title in 1960.

In 1958 and 1963 he was second in the championship. There were also second places on the tandem , in 1960 (with Lothar Stäber ) and 1963 (with Wilfried Weihe ), and a second place in the two-man team event in 1960 (with Günter Oldenburg ).

He achieved a great success when he beat the French Andre Gruchet at the 1960 International Championships in Berlin on the winter track in the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle . In this strong competition, he finished second in 1959 and 1961. Peter was the first GDR railroad sprinter to win a sprint Grand Prix in Western Europe. He succeeded in doing this in Coventry in 1960 .

Karl-Heinz Peter suffered a serious illness in the course of which he died in August 1966.
