SC unit Berlin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SC Einheit Berlin was a sports club from East Berlin . It was founded in 1954 and merged with SC Rotation Berlin and TSC Oberschöneweide to form TSC Berlin in 1963 .

history

From 1954, the competitive sports sections were separated from the company sports associations (BSG) and combined in sports clubs to promote competitive sports in the GDR sports system . In East Berlin, the sports association Einheit founded the SC Einheit Berlin on November 9, 1954, which took over the competitive athletes from the BSG Einheit Berliner Bär and BSG Einheit Nordost Berlin . The popular athletes stayed in the BSG.

In some cases, individual teams in the BSGen had already been renamed SC Einheit Berlin . The ice hockey players competed under this name a few days before the foundation.

Initially, the SC unit operated the ten sections of gymnastics , athletics , cycling , ice hockey , speed skating , figure skating , canoeing , rowing , tennis and table tennis . In 1958, some sports, including canoeing, were given to TSC Oberschöneweide .

In 1961, the SED district leadership in East Berlin decided that a new sports club should be created in the GDR capital as a "civilian counterpart" to the two existing sports associations of the National People's Army ( Army Sports Association Forward ) and the People's Police ( Sports Association Dynamo ) . For this purpose, the SC Einheit Berlin was merged with the sports clubs SC Rotation Berlin and TSC Oberschöneweide on February 18, 1963 to form TSC Berlin.

sports

The careers of various branches of the club are described below. The list of the categories listed does not claim to be complete.

ice Hockey

The ice hockey department, which was taken over by the BSG unit Berliner Bär , played in the upper league until 1963 - the top division in GDR ice hockey . In order to reduce the number of Berlin teams in the major league, TSC Oberschöneweide joined the ice hockey team of the SC unit in 1960. Unit was runner-up twice (1956 and 1957) and third (1955 and 1958).

One of the well-known players was Joachim Ziesche , who took part in international tournaments (World Cup, European Championship and Olympic Games) with the GDR national ice hockey team.

Soccer

The footballers of the SC unit were not very successful. The greatest success was the qualification for the East Berlin District League in 1955, when this was expanded to two seasons. Unity contested the sportingly insignificant transition round in 1955, when the championship was aligned with the calendar year based on the Soviet model, and was already relegated in 1956 after the district league was reduced to one season again.
