Siegfried Köhler (born October 6, 1935 in Forst ) is a former German track cyclist .

Athletic career

Siegfried Köhler was a versatile train driver and was considered the "locomotive" of the GDR four-man train . From 1956 to 1959 he was GDR champion in the single pursuit , multiple world record in team pursuit and six-time national champion in two-man team driving , in 1958 with Werner Malitz , 1961, 1963, 1965, 1966 and 1967 with Wolfgang Schmelzer as well as in 1961, 1962, 1963 , 1964 and 1966 five-time GDR champions in the team pursuit. Furthermore, he was international winter track champion in the Omnium in 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964 , in two-man team driving in 1965 and winner of the “1001 round” in 1958 (with Werner Malitz and Dieter Lüder ) and 1961 (with Schmelzer).

Köhler twice took part in the Olympic Games with the four-man track: In 1956 the team (Malitz, Manfred Gieseler and Rolf Nitzsche ) dropped out in the run-up, and in 1960 the team won the silver medal. In the same year Köhler was third in the single pursuit at the World Track Championships in Leipzig . In total, he started four times in this discipline at the UCI World Championships .

Professional

In 1967 Siegfried Köhler resigned from cycling, but remained in the sport as a trainer at TSC Berlin , where he looked after Uwe Unterwalder , among others .

Familiar

His stepbrother is the equally successful racing driver Michael Milde , who won three stages of the 1972 Peace Drive.
