Wolfgang Jaeger (born June 4, 1936 in Berlin ) is a former German cyclist .

Athletic career

Wolfgang Jaeger began cycling in 1955 at BSG Traktor Ludwigsfelde . Since 1957 he started for the BSG Empor Nord Berlin . He was discovered for competitive sport by the former cyclist Karl Wiemer , who prepared the drivers of the Tractor Sports Association for the 1956 GDR tour . After observing him in training, Wiemer immediately brought him to the tour team. There he surprised with second place in the individual time trial behind the eventual overall winner Alphonse Hermanns from Belgium . In the overall standings, however, he only finished 65th. In 1958 he finished at this rank and was last on the tour. His specialty was the single pursuit on the track. In this discipline he was GDR champion in 1960, ahead of Bernd Barleben , after winning the silver medal in the championship races in the previous two years. Since he was a BSG driver, he was not considered for the GDR selection team for the Olympic Games in Rome, despite his achievements .

Jaeger also successfully competed in street races. In 1959 he won Berlin-Cottbus-Berlin , which was held that year over 324 kilometers and two stages. In 1958 he won the Berlin championship on the road against all performance class drivers. His hardness at speed helped him to win in circuit races and to several victories in races on the track in Berlin's Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle . After his championship title in 1960, he hardly appeared again, for 1961 there are no more results for him.
