Hans-Joachim Pohl (born March 15, 1959 in Magdeborn ) is a former German cyclist from the GDR .

Athletic career

Pohl began cycling in 1969, initially to emulate his older brother, who was already racing. He joined the ASK forward Frankfurt an der Oder . He won his first GDR championship title in 1975 in the single pursuit of the youth class B. At the children's and youth spartakiad in the same year, he won the street race. In 1977 Hans-Joachim Pohl was two-time junior world champion in the single and team pursuit . In 1982 he was world champion in the points race of the amateurs in Leicester . At the 1983 Track World Championships in Zurich , he won two titles as vice world champion, in the points race and in the team pursuit (with Bernd Dittert , Mario Hernig and Carsten Wolf ). In addition, he was two-time GDR championship points race, in 1983 and 1990. In 1984 he finished second in the overall ranking of the Circuit des Ardennes road race . In 1988 he won the third edition of the international Golan Tour in Syria over six stages.

Professional

Pohl completed an engineering degree for film and television technology.

Familiar

He is the younger brother of Dietmar Pohl , who was also a track cyclist.
