Paul Scherner

Paul Scherner is a former German cyclist .

Athletic career

Scherner, who was active as a professional driver before the Second World War , won the 1949 Eastern Zone Championship (which preceded the GDR championships) in the team pursuit with the four-team of the BSG KWU Erfurt. At this championship he and his club mate Horst Heinemann also won the title in two-man team driving and the points race .

He also won the East Zone Championship in 1949 in the team time trial on the road with KWU Erfurt. In 1949 he won the Rund um die Hainleite race, one of the most traditional German cycling races ahead of Horst Gaede and Bernhard Trefflich . From 1950 he also competed in standing races . On August 5, 1951, it was part of the starting field for the Halle Stayer Prize, which was held at the opening of the " Albert Richter arena " in Halle an der Saale . Scherner won the race, which consisted of two runs, behind Emil Kirmse , who acted as a pacemaker .

Scherner started the GDR tour in 1950 and finished the tour in 14th overall. He ended his career in 1952.
