Emil Kirmse (* 1913 in Halle an der Saale ) is a former German cyclist .

Kirmse came to cycling through his brother Werner, who was also a cyclist, when he was 17 years old. He started his career with the “first step” in Halle. In the 1930s he competed in a large number of standing races and quickly became a local hero on the tracks in Saxony-Anhalt . After the Second World War he got his license as a professional driver again and developed into a specialist in the cinder track races, which were very popular at the time. In 1948 he was champion of the East Zone (forerunner of the GDR championship) in the standing race behind pacemaker Fritz Erdenberger . In 1951 he ended his active career with a victory on the track in Nordhausen , but remained closely connected to cycling throughout his life. Together with Karl Wiemer and other cycling enthusiasts, he tried to maintain the Albert Richter arena in Halle in the 1960s, but did not succeed. Since 1950 he has been a volunteer trainer for young people at BSG Motor Albert Richter Halle. One of his first protégés was Wolfgang Braune , who later also took part in the International Peace Tour.

Professional

In 1953/54 he graduated from the trainer academy in Leipzig and initially became a full-time trainer at SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt , from 1957 head trainer at ASK Vorwärts Leipzig . He often looked after GDR national teams when they started abroad. During his time in Frankfurt, he was commissioned to set up standing teams with GDR athletes for the UCI World Championships .
