Rüdiger Selig (born February 19, 1989 in Zwenkau ) is a German racing cyclist .
Athletic career
At the German Road Championships 2011 in Cottbus , Rüdiger Selig took third place in the U23 class. At the beginning of July he won the "International Tour of the Oder". A few days later he became German championship points race in the Berlin Velodrome . At the end of July he finished second overall on the Polish Mazovia Tour, one second behind the winner Robert Radosz . After these successes he was signed as a stagiaire for the second half of the 2011 season by the Luxembourg ProTeam Leopard Trek . During this time he was able to surprisingly win the Memorial Frank Vandenbroucke , a Belgian one-day race in the UCI category 1.1, in the mass sprint.
From 2012 to 2015 Selig drove with the ProTeam Katusha and during this time he won another one-day race in the first category with the Volta Limburg Classic 2013 . For the 2016 season he moved to the Bora-Argon 18 team , with whom he also took part in a Grand Tour , the Vuelta á España , for the first time . His best stage placement was a second place in a mass sprint. Selig also came second in a mass sprint on his second Grand Tour, the Giro d'Italia 2017 , which he was unable to finish. Then Selig was mainly used as a driver for Peter Sagan and Sam Bennett and from 2018 also for Pascal Ackermann . In the sprint of a smaller group on the 2nd stage of the Tour of Slovakia in 2018, he achieved another individual success.
