International recognition of South Sudan
The diplomatic international recognition of South Sudan already took place before the official declaration of independence on July 9, 2011. It means the recognition of the first state in Africa whose borders are not the result of colonial demarcation, but the result of two decades of civil wars . This founding of the state thus leaves a previously valid consensus of almost all African governments. The following table lists the date on which the new state was recognized by other states in the first days of South Sudan's independence.
