Emanuel "Emu" Raasch (born November 16, 1955 in Burg ) is a former German racing cyclist and current cycling trainer .

Athletic career

Emanuel Raasch began his cycling career at the age of 14 with the BSG unit Genthin, switched to SC Dynamo Magdeburg in 1970 (where he already trained in short-distance competitions), and later switched to SC Dynamo Berlin . He was already very successful in the youth classes (multiple winner of the children and youth partakiads and youth championships in the GDR).

In the course of his career he was three times GDR champion, twice in the time trial over 1000 meters (1975, 1976) and once in the sprint (1977). Several times he took second and third places at the UCI track world championships . His greatest success was winning the World Cup in tandem with Eyk Pokorny in Stuttgart in 1991. He was also eight times GDR and German champion and recorded 18 Grand Prix victories. In 1975 and 1976 he won the GDR Grand Prix in the sprint. In 1976 he won the overall ranking at the Grand Prix of the Socialist Countries .

In 1995 he played his eleventh World Cup at the age of 39 .

Raasch had declared his career to be over in 1984 after his disappointing performances at the GDR rail championships. In addition, there were some decisions made by the cycling officials in the GDR, which he perceived as disadvantages. So z. B. 1987, when he won seven out of eight races in the 1000-meter time trial in the GDR, but was not considered for the world championship. In 1981 he wanted to take a break from competition due to some illnesses, but the officials refused.

Raasch works today as a trainer and looks after a. a. the world champion Robert Förstemann (until 2016).

Trivia

Raasch played a supporting role in the 1998 German feature film Run Lola Run . At the German Bodybuilding Championship of the National Athletic Comitee (NAC) 2011 in Cuxhaven and at the International East German Bodybuilding Championship of the NAC 2019 in Fürstenwalde , he won the "Body over 50" class.
