Ivan Kučírek

Ivan Kučírek (born November 25, 1946 in Břeclav ) is a former Czechoslovak track cyclist and three-time world champion.

Career

Ivan Kučírek was a specialist in tandem races and sprinting on the track. He belonged to the sport clubs Favorit Brno and ASD Dukla Pardubice . In 1980 , 1981 and 1982 he was world champion in this discipline with Pavel Martínek , and vice-world champion in 1976 and 1983 . At the Track World Championships in 1971, he finished third in the sprint .

Kučírek started three times at the Olympic Games, 1964 in Tokyo , 1968 in Mexico and 1972 in Munich , where he was fifth each time.

Kučírek was eleven times Czechoslovakian champion in sprint and twelve times Czechoslovakian champion in tandem. He won his first national championship at the age of 17, when the championship races were still held with international participation. Behind the winner Giordano Turrini , he was the best-placed local sprinter.

He won the prestigious Grand Prix Framar in the Czech Republic four times .

Honors

In 1971, Kučírek was the winner of the annual survey of the Král cyklistiky ( cycling king ) of the Československý svaz cyklistiky cycling association. In 2006 he was honored with an admission to the Hall of Fame of the Best Sportsmen in Brno .

Private

Kučírek lives in Brno-Kohoutovice and works for his daughter Gabriela's company in Modřice .
