from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vladimír Vačkář (born February 6, 1949 in Prostějov ) is a former Czechoslovak track cyclist and four-time world champion.

Career

In 1972 Vladimír Vačkář started at the Olympic Games in Munich in the sprint , where he was eliminated in the second round.

In the following years Vačkář formed the most successful duo in tandem races with his compatriot Miroslav Vymazal . The two athletes became world champions four times together: 1973 in San Sebastián , 1974 in Montreal , 1977 in San Cristóbal and 1978 in Munich . In addition, the tandem pair took second place at the UCI rail world championships in 1975 in Rocourt and third place at the 1979 rail world championships in Amsterdam . The chance of winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games on the tandem, however, was denied to the two Czechoslovaks, as this discipline was removed from the Olympic program after 1972. They were also hard to beat nationally. Together they became title holders at the domestic championships in 1973 and from 1977 to 1979. Vladimír Vačkář also won the sprint titles in 1970 and 1975.

Vačkář won the Brno six-day race five times : 1971 (with Rudolf Enenkl), 1974 and 1974 (with Milan Puzrla), 1978 (with Jaroslav Bláha), 1979 (with Miroslav Junec).

Vladimír Vačkář studied at the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sport of the Comenius University in Bratislava and at the Charles University in Prague , where he obtained the first class coaching license. Vačkář is now the head coach of the Youth Sports Center (SCM) at SKC Prostějov.
