Pierre Trentin (born May 15, 1944 in Créteil ) is a former French cyclist . With two gold and two bronze medals each at the Olympic Games and three world championship titles, he was one of the most successful athletes in track cycling in the 1960s and early 70s .

biography

Trentin played his first competitions at the age of 14. His first club was the US Creteil , of which he remained a member throughout his career. The first international success was third place in the sprint at the 1962 World Cup. A year later, he won the World Cup silver medal in the same discipline. Another silver medal was added at the Mediterranean Games with the tandem, together with Daniel Morelon , who remained his tandem partner until the end of his career.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 , Trentin finished third in the 1000-meter time trial, but retired with the tandem in the hope runs. Also in 1964 he was able to celebrate his first world title in the sprint. Trentin dominated the 1966 World Championship in Frankfurt am Main : He won on the tandem and in the 1000-meter time trial, and came second in the sprint. In 1967 Trentin came second twice in the World Championship (sprint and tandem ).

Trentin and Morelon were almost unbeatable in the railway competitions at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City . In the sprint that Morelon won, Trentin won the bronze medal. But he won the 1000-meter time trial and both achieved their second gold medal on the tandem. At the end of his career, Trentin was third in the World Championships in 1969 and 1971 on the tandem. He won the sprint classic Grand Prix de Paris seven times in the amateur and open classes.

Trentin never switched to the professionals, but always drove as an amateur, since he was busy with the management of a leather processing company.
