Eduard Rapp

Eduard Reingoldowitsch Rapp (born March 7, 1951 in Omsk ) is a former Soviet track cyclist and two-time world champion.

Life

Eduard Rapp wanted to be a cyclist from childhood, but he fell ill with an inflammation of the heart muscle. The doctors advised him to do gymnastics, which is why he got a muscular stature with a height of 1.75 meters. In 1968 he made his debut as a track cyclist; Because of the long winter in his hometown, road training was difficult, but there was a cycling track.

Rapp began as a pursuer , individually or in a team, but then oriented himself towards the 1-km time trial . In this discipline he was world champion in 1971 and 1974 , and vice-world champion in 1973 and 1975. In 1979 he was able to win another bronze World Cup medal and win the Soviet championship in this discipline.

Rapp took part in the Olympic Games twice, in 1972 and 1976 . In 1972 in Munich , however, he made a mishap: Rapp mistakenly believed he had caused a false start and returned to the start; however, the clock had continued.

Today Eduard Rapp lives in southern Germany, has German citizenship and drives as a senior race for the "RSG Eichstetten ".
