Janusz Kazimierz Kierzkowski (born February 26, 1947 in Borek near Gorzów , † August 19, 2011 in Wroclaw ) was a Polish track cyclist .

Career

From the late 1960s to the mid 1970s, Janusz Kierzkowski belonged to the world's elite of short-term specialists on the railway. He celebrated his first major international success in 1968 when he won the bronze medal in the 1000-meter time trial at the Olympic Games in Mexico City . In 1969 in Antwerp he was runner- up in the time trial, and in 1973 in San Sebastian he was world champion. In 1969 he was also Polish sprint champion . In 1967 he won the championship in tandem racing . In his special discipline, the time trial, he was a series of Polish champions from 1967 to 1974. He also won the title in 1976 and 1977. He won two other national titles in the team pursuit (1967 and 1968).

In 1974 and 1975 Kierzkowski was able to finish third at the World Championships in the track time trial. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , he finished fifth in the individual time trial and fourth in the team pursuit . At the end of his career, he finished fourth in the time trial at the 1976 Games in Montreal . He started for the clubs Sparta Wrocław, Legia Warszawa and Dolmel Wrocław .
