Martin Vinnicombe

James Martin Vinnicombe (born December 5, 1964 in Melbourne ) is a former Australian track cyclist and world champion. Today he works as a trainer.

Martin Vinnicombe was a specialist in the 1000 meter time trial . At the UCI track world championships in 1987 in Vienna , he became world champion in this discipline, after having finished third in Bassano del Grappa in 1985 and second in 1986 in Colorado Springs . In 1989 in Lyon and 1990 in Maebashi he was able to win the title of vice world champion again.

At the 1988 Olympics in Seoul , Martin Vinnicombe won the silver medal over the kilometer.

In 1991, Vinnicombe tested positive for steroids in the United States and was banned for two years. He then ended his active career and has been working as a coach ever since. In 2005 he was banned from the "Chinese Olympic Committee" (COC) for doping the driver Zeng Liqing with EPO for four years as a coach in China. Vinnicombe vehemently denied this doping allegation and regarded himself as a scapegoat for the machinations of local officials.

In the 1990s, Martin Vinnicombe was married to 1998 World Champion in the One Pursuit , Lucy Tyler-Sharman . After the doping affair in 1991, she separated from him.
